The most important resource any organisation has is its staff, and we are incredibly fortunate to have a long serving and well established team (many of whom have been with us for over 10 years).
We are a highly-qualified team that is always challenging itself and striving towards excellence. This means our high standard of care is consistently improving due to the degree of experience, knowledge and the shared goals of our staff.
All staff members hold current safeguarding, first aid, food hygiene and safety certificates in addition to their professional qualifications.
We operate with a “higher than required” staff to child ratio and several super numerary members of staff to ensure that during times of staff absence, we don’t need to rely on the inconsistencies of supply staff.
Our aim is to provide a safe, warm, caring, stimulating and inclusive environment based on mutual respect and tolerance to enable each child in our care to flourish and realise their individual potential and are always encouraging children to celebrate their successes. We achieve this through a carefully planned program of child centred learning opportunities using the children’s ideas and opinions as a starting point. Warm, close relationships with adults are central to this and uniquely here at CDN, we allow even the youngest children to choose their own key worker.
This is possible if handled sensitively by listening to the children as there are almost always clear signs of favoured adults if the time is taken to look for them. This ensures the reassuring basis from which a child can fully enjoy all aspects of nursery life.
These key workers have specialist training and are able to support their key children to learn to listen to each other and resolve conflicts positively by “using their words” and managing their feelings, fostering important values such as treating others as you would want to be treated.
The key workers are also responsible for making formative and summative assessments to track the children’s development and together with parents to plan the next steps for each child individually.
In the interests of transparency, we have a CCTV system installed which records all events throughout the whole nursery. Our aim was to reassure parents of our openness and confidence in our practice.
Our partnership with our parents is outstanding and we are completely invested in the relationship we have with the families who use our service. There are regular stay and play sessions, parents’ evenings, social events, parents’ workshops and we have a CDN parents’ support group that holds regular meetings to discuss topics and issues of our parents’ choosing. Our testimonial page is full of heart-warming evidence of our parents’ opinion of the service they receive.
The meals at CDN are a real strength of the nursery, thanks to our 2 wonderful cooks and the home cooked dishes they prepare freshly each day using locally-sourced, quality ingredients (no value ranges here!) The children grow their own herbs and vegetables here in the nursery greenhouse which are used by the kitchen. We can cater for all and any dietary requirement and have a robust system in place for ensuring every child’s needs are safely and tastily met!
